Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
April VanMilligan
Hello! I look forward to meeting and working closely with you! I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a passion for providing compassionate, evidence-based care across the lifespan. I began my career as a pediatric registered nurse and earned my BSN from Indiana University in 2017, followed by my MSN from Lewis University in 2024. I’m also a Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), which deepens my understanding of child and adolescent health.
My clinical experience as a psychiatric care provider spans inpatient psychiatric care, intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, and outpatient clinic settings, allowing me to support patients at all levels of acuity. I have a particular interest in treating self-injurious behaviors, body-focused repetitive behaviors (such as trichotillomania), and various mood disorders. Additionally, I’m trained in behavioral de-escalation techniques to help foster safety and trust in therapeutic relationships.
Education is central to my practice. As the daughter of two retired educators, I believe in empowering clients with knowledge about their conditions and treatment plans to support informed, confident decision-making. I also value interdisciplinary collaboration and work closely with therapists, primary care providers, educators, and families to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care.
My goal is to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel heard, supported, and actively involved in their mental health journey.
